My approach

When working with you, I will use a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques and hypnotherapy for an approach that is both effective and the best fit for you. I work using only techniques that are evidence-based, so that you can know that the exercises that we will undertake together are supported by previous studies.

Our work together will be entirely collaborative and I will always ensure that you are confident and happy with the techniques that we will use as part of the therapeutic process and will never encourage you to undertake any exercises that you are not comfortable with. I aim to work with you in as few sessions as possible (average 6 sessions) in order for you to experience change in the shortest time possible. This can, of course, be extended to cover other issues, should they present themselves.

Although it may not always be necessary to incorporate it into therapy, for some, hypnosis can sometimes be a worrying prospect due to myths propagated by stage hypnotists for the purposes of entertainment. As more scientific research is conducted, the effectiveness of therapeutic hypnosis is increasingly more evident and supported. Any hypnosis that is done within a therapeutic context is always directed towards gently assisting you in overcoming the issues that you have identified. You can be assured that you will not lose control at any point during the process. With this in mind, when you fully engage with tailor-made hypnosis, you can experience the true benefits that it has to offer you.

CBT focuses on how an issue manifests in the present time (with minimal discussion of the past) and how it can be most helpfully addressed and worked with, in order to guide you towards living with more freedom and choice, motivated by your own goals rather than any fears. We will focus on methods that are supportive of you in living your life now and that can also be used in future in other situations, providing you with a toolkit of techniques that work for you.

When we experience the emotional upheaval that certain issues can trigger in us, it is necessary to calm the physical and emotional symptoms. As such, I will help you to learn relaxation techniques that are best suited to you that can help you feel a sense of gentle relaxation and comfortable safety as we explore how best to lead you through the issue that you are facing. An increasing sense of relaxation that you can access at any time you wish will serve as a helpful springboard when moving on to treat the main issue in a more directed way.

Our first appointment together will consist of getting to know each other and discussing the issue that you would like help with. This is a good opportunity for you to ask me any questions that you have and for me to explain how we will work together. Following this initial meeting, we can begin focusing more specifically on ways to help you.

  • £65 per 1–hour session
  • Concessions available on request for those who are part-time workers, unemployed, students or retired
  • Skype sessions may be available on request
  • Working days: Tuesdays (other days may be available on request)

When cancelling, please notify me with more than 24 hours’ notice (after this the full session fee will be due).
