My approach

I consider all clients to be unique in their patterns of thoughts, feelings, behaviours, needs, desires and difficulties. Therefore I draw from a range of different theories, tools and techniques in therapy, to tailor the therapy I provide to the needs of each client.

Sometimes work may focus on the past, and its influence on the present; other times therapy may be focussed on future goals, the values that underpin them, and the action needed to achieve them.

My initial training as an integrative hypno-psychotherapist has given me a broad base to work from, and this has been developed by further training in areas such as mindfulness and compassion-based therapies, and with tools such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) and the Heimler Scale of Social Functioning.

As much as possible, my approach is informed by research, and thus I have a preference for evidence-based therapies, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Ultimately, I seek to use the best tools I can find to help my clients to take charge of their lives, to stop struggling, and to begin to flourish.

Training, qualifications and experience

After initial training as a counsellor, I qualified as a hypno-psychotherapist in 2013, having studied with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (NCHP), on a course externally accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy.

In addition, I am a Certified Hypnotic Fertility Practitioner (CHFP), and registered as an easibirthing® fertility specialist. I have also undertaken further training in specific hypnosis protocols with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis (LCCH).

During 2015, I became a Human Social Functioning (HSF) practitioner, qualified in the use of the Heimler Scale of Social Functioning, and the application of HSF skills and techniques in therapy.

In 2017, I completed training in ACT, a mindfulness-based behaviour therapy.

I am also a registered clinical mindfulness teacher, trained to facilitate on 8-session group courses such as mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). I have been practicing mindfulness and compassion for more than a decade, and this also informs my work as a therapist.
