My approach
You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong, or have the words for it. That’s often where we start.
I begin by listening – to you, to your story, and to the places you feel stuck. Sessions are unhurried and led by what feels most relevant and important to you, at your pace.
I work as both a counsellor and a coach, so we don’t have to choose between understanding something and doing something about it. In the counselling, we take our time with difficult feelings, or places where you’re stuck. As those patterns resolve, coaching is the forward pull – what you want and trying things out in the world. We move fluidly between the two, in one relationship.
I draw on acceptance and commitment therapy, internal family systems and compassionate communication, as they’re useful to you. The work is deeply compassionate, and it’s also practical and for the real world.
I’m not a blank screen, I bring warmth and real curiosity about who you are and what matters to you.
I work with individual adults (aged 18 and over). I work with people from all backgrounds, and welcome LGBTQ+ clients.
Training, qualifications and experience
I’ve been practising compassionate communication (nonviolent communication) for over 20 years, 12 of them as a trainer. That’s where my deep listening comes from.
Before I trained as a counsellor I spent 20 years making television documentaries – 20 years of telling people’s stories.
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Coaching, with Distinction, from the University of East London.
I’m a Level 2 trained internal family systems (IFS) practitioner,
My earlier degrees are an MA in Media and Film and a BA in Cultural Studies.
I work within the personal consultancy model, which is what lets counselling and coaching sit together in one relationship, rather than being 2 separate things.
Professional affiliations
I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) (number 419900).
Code of ethics
I work to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
Fees and availability
My fee is a sliding scale of £65 to £80 per session, depending on your income and circumstances. I keep a limited number of concession places.
We start with a free 20-minute call, which can be booked on my website or arranged by phone on 07857 366 537.
I see people face to face in north central London, 5 minutes’ walk from King’s Cross and St Pancras, and in south London close to Clapham High Street rail station and Clapham North tube. I also work online.
I book the rooms session by session, so I can usually be flexible about which day.
