My work includes one-to-one work with individuals, either long term (up to 2 years) or short term (12 weeks), to focus on a specific issue.
I mainly do psychodynamic work, which involves the client being willing to look at their childhood and early relationships with their caregivers.
This is a talking therapy, where we look at not only what you are conscious of, but try to bring to light some of the things that you have been unconscious of. It is about exploring patterns of behaviour, emotions and ways in which you relate to others, as well as feelings and beliefs you have about yourself.
Training and qualifications
I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counselling.
For my own learning and development and as a requirement of the BACP I do a certain amount of continuous professional development work every year. In 2014 I completed a course in the Foundations of Analytical Psychology.
As well as private work, I work part time as a part-voluntary and part-paid counsellor at a counselling centre in North London. I have been working there since 1998.
I have worked with many different clients with a variety of problems over the years. I have also been trained in bereavement counselling and have previously worked for a bereavement service.
In the past I worked for 3 years at a youth counselling centre for people aged 16 to 25.
- I am a BACP-accredited counsellor/psychotherapist (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
