My approach

My approach is psychodynamic. This means I work with you to explore how your life experiences have shaped who you are today.

From the moment we are born – and even before – we exist within relationships. These interactions, especially with significant others, play a central role in shaping and developing our personality. In other words, the patterns within our relationships, both negative and positive, influence our current ways of being and naturally evoke emotional responses.

When we face challenging situations, we experience difficult emotions that we try to manage. However, when these experiences exceed our capacity to cope, we may push the emotions away by denying or repressing them.

I believe these repressed emotions remain active beneath the surface. They often try to emerge against our will, through both body and mind, and can contribute to the symptoms or difficulties we experience. Bringing these emotions into awareness and processing them can create more internal space, allowing you to function with greater ease.

My work invites you to explore the patterns in your current life, reflect on past experiences and connect with the emotions that underlie them.

Training, qualifications and experience

I have trained at both the Tavistock Centre and Birkbeck, University of London and obtained these qualifications:

  • PgDip in Psychoanalytic Observational Studies (Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust)
  • MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy (Birkbeck, University of London)

Since completing my training, I have worked exclusively in secondary school and colleges for the past 15 years, supporting young people with their mental health, providing staff consultations and supervision.

I am committed to developing my knowledge and skills, and I regularly attend CPD training and workshops.

As part of my ongoing professional development, I am currently a researcher on the Professional Doctorate on Psychodynamic Counselling at University of Essex.

Before beginning my career in the UK, I obtained an MA in Education from Kobe University, Japan, and qualified as a clinical psychologist, working primarily with children, parents and teachers. I am a member of the Association of Japanese Clinical Psychology. My specialist area included special educational needs (SEN) and emotionally based school avoidance, supporting children and young people aged 0 to 18 along with their parents and other key adults involved in their care.
