My approach
Psychotherapy offers a structured, safe and focused environment in which you are invited to explore your emotional and relational patterns with a view to helping you experience life in a clearer and more fulfilling way.
You can expect me to listen deeply to your story, and to offer insights and perspectives to enable you to understand how it is that you are living your life, and what you can do to change that experience.
I bring to the table a comprehensive training, along with a wide variety of experience drawn from many realms of life and it would be rare for me to come across an issue which I feel unable to work with.
Training, qualifications and experience
I am trained in psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy. This means I will be interested in how the past and the unconscious part of the psyche is active in the present.
I will work with you to see how this presents in our relationship and in the other relationships you have.
So much of our experience is hidden in the unconscious mind and in psychotherapy we will try to access things that are less known and not immediately obvious. This might include considering your dreams and your spontaneous thoughts and ways of being.
My training also integrated elements of humanistic psychotherapy and existential psychotherapy. In practice this means I will be engaging with you with kindness and compassion. But also, I may challenge you to consider other perspectives and your own capacity to make changes.
Existential psychotherapy is about looking at life’s big questions and finding meaning. It’s about trying to unpeel all the layers of the onion to get to the thing itself as a way of deepening understanding and freedom.
